The friends of Mr. and Mrs. Knight, of Grandview street, Moonee Ponds, will be pleased to hear of the promotion, in Egypt, of their son, Jas. V. Knight (late sergeant of the Machine Gun Section of the Essendon Rifles), who went out as a private in H Company of the First Reinforcements. A cable message has just been received announcing that he has been promoted to the rank of Sergeant on the corps of the Paymaster of the Forces in Egypt.

Staff-Sergeant James V. Knight (21st Machine Gun Co., lst Division A.I.F.), eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. A. T. Knight, "Warata," 70 Wilson street, Moonee Ponds, is at present an inmate of Harefield Hospital. Staff-Sergt. Knight was blown up by a shell and buried last October in the fighting around Ypres. After nine weeks in Le Havre Hospital, recovering from shell shock and injuries received, he rejoined his company in December last. In April of this year he was attacked with trench fever and lost the use of his limbs. A short stay in Etaples hospital followed. He was then transferred to Bournemouth, and from there to Harefield. Here the injuries received in October re-asserted themselves, and after a good deal of X-ray photographing the surgeons operated on him for appendicitis and twisted intestines. Staff Sergeant Knight is progressing satisfactorily.
