Phillip Francis Laing  No 460 served with the 12 Inf Bn from 22 Aug 1914 to 17 Oct 1914.  He was discharged for breach of regulations, being absent without leave. 

 

Re-enlisting as Clifton Laing No 767 he served with the 23 Inf Bn from 1 Mar 1915 to 3 Aug 1918  He served in Gallipoli and France,   In May 1917 he was transferred to the 65 Inf Bn.  Two months later he was transferred back to the 23 Inf Bn.  He was returned to Australia in January 1918 for discharge.

 

As Phillip Francis Laing No V80319 he was attached to the Depot from 21 Sep 1918 to 24 Dec 1918

 

Phillip even confessed in his B2455 record that he had served in the Navy for 6 months on HMS Psyche in 1909, subsequently deserting.

 

Re-enlisting as Francis Phillip Laing from 50 Bellair St, Kensington.  He was discharged in December 1918 due to the demobilisation of the AIF.
