Mr and Mrs. J. J O'Callaghan, of Arden street, Kensington, have received news that their nephew, John Gerald Lawless, has received his commission.


Lieutenant Lawless enlisted with the 1st Australian Expeditionary Force, and has been on active service since. Prior to enlisting he was attached to the Federal Treasury staff. He was educated at the Christian Brothers' College, St. Joseph's, North Melbourne.

For meritorious service and devotion to duty.  Lieutenant LAWLESS has been Divisional Paymaster with this Division since January 1917.  He has been of the greatest assistance in all matters connected with the pay and accounts of the members of the Division, and has at all times done his utmost to assist the troops in every way.  His energy and initiative have been of great benefit to this Division.
