News has come to hand that Private John A. Macdonald only son of Mr. Smith Macdonald, of 40 Park street, Moonee Ponds, was reported as killed in action on 20th September. He enlisted in Western Australia. The deceased, who was in his 36th year, was educated at Essendon State school and Scotch College. He was a great athlete, being a famous runner and swimmer. He followed pastoral pursuits at Gingie station, Barwon River, N.S.W. and afterwards went to Broome, WA., where he engaged in pearling pursuits, in which he had large interests. On one occasion there he rescued three men from drowning.
