Recommendation for the Serbian Order of the Star of Karageorge with Swords

2nd Aust Machine Gun Coy
Regt No 51  Rank C S Maj.  Charles Henry McGregor

Act or Service for which recommended

PLOEGSTEERT.  At about 6 am on 30th June 16 the company billet (COURT DREVE) was very heavily shelled.  The above NCO in a very calm and collected manner superintended clearing the men from the billet, and then at great personal risk carried a wounded man to a place of safety.  He then returned again and carried another wounded man to safety.  Twice more he returned for to the billet and entering a stable where there were nine struggling horses, succeeded in pairing [?] and leading them out of shelled zones. Two of the horses were killed while being led away.

I consider, by his cool example and prompt action loss of life in men and horses was thereby averted.  This NCO took part in the landing at ANZAC on 25th April '15, was wounded at HELLES on 8th May '15 rejoined his unit 6 weeks later, and has ever since been with his unit.  He has at all times been devoted to his duties and his services have been invaluable.

Recommended for Cross of the Kara George with Swords.

SOCIAL BREVITIES

A kitchen tea was given at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. C. White, 43 Lincoln road, Essendon, to Lieut. L. C. H. McGregor (2nd Machine Gun Company, late A.I.F.) and Mrs. McGregor. About 60 guests were present. A large number of beautiful and useful gifts were presented to Lieut. and Mrs. McGregor. Nothing was left undone by the very kind hostess, Mrs. White and Mrs. Haymes, to make the evening a great success.

A real Australian welcome was given to Mrs. McGregor, wife of Lieut. L. C. H. McGregor (late A.I.F.), at the residence of Mr and Mrs Lachlan MCGregor, Elder parade, Essendon. Mrs. L. C. H. McGregor had, a few days previously, arrived from England. The guests numbered over 50.
