At a meeting in the South Essendon Methodist schoolroom on 8th inst., a farewell was given and presentation made to Corp. Tom Fitzgerald and Gnr. Walter Smith, who both will be shortly leaving for the front. A gift night was held, and many articles were received to be sent, per the Y.M.C.A., for, the men at the front. Mr. L. L. Stevens was in the chair and made the presentations, which consisted of soldiers' knives, and he was ably supported by Mr. Nattrass, the Rev. Mr. Swan and Mr. Fenton, M.H.R., who all wished the brave men all sorts of good luck and a speedy and safe return. The meeting was held by the South Essendon Methodist Guild, who are doing good work for the Red Cross and soldiers' comfort movement.

Honor Board Unveiled.

There was a large congregation at Essendon South Methodist Church last Sunday evening, March 10th, when an honor board was unveiled in honor of the boys who have gone to the front from Essendon South Church, and the cricket club. The Rev. H. Pattinson preached a good sermon from 2nd Timothy, 2nd chap., 3rd and 4th verses: "Thou therefore endure hardness as a good soldier of Jesus Christ." "No man that warreth entangles himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him Who hath chosen him to be a soldier." He took the soldier in the service of the King, as an example of what a Christian in God's service should be-brave, strong, resolute, obedient, allowing nothing to interfere with his service, and he appealed to the congregation to enlist as soldiers of Jesus Christ.-The choir sang the anthem, "Crossing the Bar," and at the close of the sermon sang "When the Mists have rolled away." The Rev. Mr. Pattinson then asked the congregation to stand while Mr. H. James Woods unveiled the honor board. Mr. H. J. Woods, son of Mr. A. Woods, Fletcher street, is one of the "South boys" who went out in the first contingent. He was wounded at Gallipoli and invalided home nearly two years ago. He is the only "South boy" who has returned as yet.
