Citation for Meritorious Service Medal

The skill and assiduity with which this NCO has carried out his duties as Coy  Quartermaster Sergeant is worthy of the very nighest commendation  In addition to dealing with all stores of the unit he has handled the whole of the controlled technical signal stores of the Division with admirable ability, and has always practiced the strictest economy.  During the operations on the SOMME with this Division since March last, until the present date, QMS Pynor's close attention and dispatch with which he has carried out all work entrusted to him have made his services invaluable to  the Division and to this unit in particular.

News has been received that Cpl. S. E. Pynor who left Australia as a lance-corporal in the 3rd Division of the Signalling Corps, has been promoted to the rank of quarter-master sergeant.   Q.M.S. Pynor, who is the son of Cr. S. Pynor, ex-mayor of Essendon, was employed in the Melbourne General Post Office as a mechanic. While in camp he originated a field switchboard for signalling purposes and so complete his invention he was given control of one of the great exchanges with several hundred men to assist. For this service he was promoted to corporal, and, hence while at the front, he attained his present rank.
