Mr. Thomas Ryan, of "Broomogrove," [sic] McPherson street, Essendon, has been notified that his only son, Signaller D. E. (Hughie) Ryan, has been wounded in action in France, and is now in Hospital in England.

RYAN.--On 21st instant, Bessie, beloved wife of Thomas Ryan, of McPherson st., Essendon, mother of Signaller Duncan Ewart Ryan (on active service) and Muriel Charlotte Ryan. Privately interred.

The death occurred, on Monday night, 21st inst., of Mrs. Bessie Ryan, wife of Mr. Thomas Ryan, dairyman, of McPherson street, Essendon. The deceased had been a martyr to paralysis for the past five years, and had been a patient sufferer. She and her husband had been residents of Essendon for the last 25 years, and were well known and respected. The news that her only son Signaller Duncan Ewart Ryan (who had been wounded at the front was going back to the firing line, adversely affected her and brought on the end. The remains of the deceased were interred privately on Wednesday in the Melbourne General Cemetery.
