ROLL OF HONOR

Mr. A. P. Morris, Browning street, Moonee Ponds, has received word that his son, Sergeant L. F. Morris, has been promoted Lieutenant. Lieut. Morris joined the Australian Imperial Forces as a private and received his promotions on the field. He went through the Gallipoli campaign with the 5th Battalion, and has been serving in France for some months. Previous to enlisting he was employed at Mr. Caffin's, draper, Moonee Ponds.

SOLDIER PROMOTED
Mr A. P. Morris, of Browning street, Moonee Ponds, has received

information that his son, Sergt. L. F. Morris, has been promoted

lieutenant in France. He left Australia as a private and went

through the Gallipoli campaign with the 5th Battalion. Previous

to enlisting he was a salesman in the furniture department of a

suburban warehouse.

One Thousand Days with the AIF

 

Leonard Morris had served prior to the war with the Victorian Rifles, where he'd held the rank of Corporal.  Joining the AIF as a Private, he served on Gallipoli and was promoted to Lance Sergeant prior to the evacuation.  After the evacuation,  in Egypt, he was transferred to 57 Inf Bn in February 1916, and promoted to Sergeant shortly afterwards.  In September 1916 he was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant in the field.  In January 1917 he was promoted to 1st Lieutenant and posted to the 15th Light Trench Mortar Battery.  In June 1918 he resumed duty with the 57 Inf Bn.   In October 1918 he was returned to Australia on Special leave for 1914 men.  His appointment was terminated in Melbourne on 23 February 1919.
