SOLDIERS FAREWELLED.

A social evening was held in St. John's Presbyterian School Hall on the 26th ult, bidding farewell to Corporal Arthur Blamey, Privates Wallace Dowie and Douglas Jobson prior to their departure on active service. Advantage also was taken to welcome back Sergeant F. W. Usher, Privates Alan Steel and Wilson Gordon, who have been invalided home. Small pocket testaments were presented to the departing soldiers by Mr. Jobson on behalf of the Session, whilst words of farewell were given by Rev. Mr. Stewart, who stated that letters from our lads at the front tell of the value and aid that have been received from the testaments presented by the Session.

A splendid programme of music was arranged for by Mr. Dangerfield and much pleasure was given by the excellence of the items. Winners of a competition held during the social were Mrs. Parker, widow of the late Lieut. Harold Parker, and Sergeant F. W. Usher. Supper was provided by the ladies.
