WOUNDED.

Word has been received that Mr Franklin Rowe, son of Mrs Rowe, 15 Roxburgh street, Ascotvale, has been promoted to a commission in the British army. Mr Rowe was connected with the Education department and left for Egypt with the First Expeditionary Force as a non commissioned officer.

The Argus, Thursday 20 May 1915

The friends of Lieutenant Franklin Rowe, of the Royal Flying Corps, who was previously reported missing in France, will regret to learn that he has now been officially reported killed in action on 1st June last, while making a reconnaissance over the enemy lines. Lieutenant Rowe, who was 24 years of age, was formerly a teacher at the Essendon State school, commanding cadet company attached thereto. His mother, Mrs. M. E. Rowe, was a well-known resident in the district for several years. He left for the front in October, 1914 as a corporal, but he was not long in Egypt before he gained his commission and was attached to the famous 29th Division of the Royal Fusiliers. With the above division he served in the Cape Helles landing, and from there he was invalided to London suffering from shell shock. Later he entered the Flying Corps, and letters from his superior officers speak of the splendid work he performed.
