SOCIAL MOONEE PONDS METHODISTS' ROLL OF HONOUR. A very pleasant social evening was held in the Puckle street hall last Wednesday week to say good-bye to several members of the Moonee Ponds Methodist Sunday school on the occasion of their joining the expeditionary force. The lads were:-Privates R. Rowe, A. Pullen, H. Chenall, D. Pinkerton, H. Paul, T. Watson, William Hulme, G. Eaglesham and F. Hoskings (absent). Mr. L. Baker, a former scholar, has also enlisted. W. Davey is in one of the isolation camps, and L. Sommers is a victim to meningitis. The total number of volunteers from this school is about twenty-two.
Proceedings opened with some excellent musical items and recitations by scholars and teachers, the Rev. T. S. B. Woodfull being in the chair, and after the company had taken part in a guessing competition they adjourned to an outer room for supper. Several toasts were honoured, and then the guests of the evening, who were given special seats of honour with their parents, were presented by Mr. C. Stevens with suitable gifts, comprising kit bags, pocket books, money belts, etc., on behalf of the scholars. The Rev. T. S. B. Woodfull said the school owed a great debt of gratitude to the brave lads who had unselfishly left good positions for their country's sake, and also the parents who had given their best to the Empire. The lads did not want to go for any personal reasons, but as a sense of duty and the memory of their great sacrifice would always remain with their old schoolmates. Messrs. Williams and Little also spoke in appreciation of the steps the lads were taking. Pte. R. Rowe then returned thanks for the useful gifts and the many eulogies and expressions of good luck showered upon them. The send-off was then drawn to a close by the company singing "For They are Jolly Good Fellows," and the National Anthem.

Honour the Brave.
A most impressive memorial service was conducted at the Moonee Ponds Methodist Church, Gladstone street, last Sunday evening, by the Rev. T. S. B. Woodfull. The service was in memory of Pte. Carlyle Ormond Ryan (Lewis Machine Gun), 60th Battalion, aged 26 years and 7 months, reported died of wounds, 5th April, and Spr. Leonard Lindsay Basham, aged 19 years and 7 months, killed in action in France, 26th April. The Wattle Club, of which Spr. Basham was a member, turned out in honour of their comrade and occupied the first six rows in the congregation. Special hymns were sung, and prayers offered by the preacher, who delivered a war sermon. Two letters were also read from Pte. Carl Ryan's diary. Few eyes were dry when the organ rendered the Dead March, and the Moonee Ponds Methodist Boy Scouts, under Scout Master C. Stevens played the Last Post. The Sacrament was held at the close of the service.

ROLL OF HONOR
The honour roll of the Gladstone Methodist Church, Moonee Ponds, was unveiled in a most impressive manner on Sunday evening, when there was a crowded congregation. The Rev. T. S. B. Woodfull conducted the service and delivered an appropriate sermon, after which he read the names of the 100 soldiers on the roll, ten of whom had paid the supreme sacrifice. The Hon. W. Hutchinson, M.L.A., Minister of Education, delivered a striking address, and then unveiled the two handsome boards. A number of suitable hymns and anthems were rendered, and the congregation were asked to join in the refrain of "Land of Hope and Glory." The 1st Moonee Ponds Boys' Scouts, under Scoutsmaster Cecil Stevens, were in attendance, and sounded the Last Post. The Benediction closed the proceedings.
