Dearest all,
These are just a few views of the place where I am at present. The Barracks here are the second largest in England, & in peace time were occupied by the Fusiliers. The building in the distance with the spire is the Garrison Church & is a fine big place. Note the white chalky ground on the first picture, is lovely? in wet weather.

Pte. A. W. Sherwood, writing to his father, Mr. Sherwood, of 46 Wellington street, Flemington, says that he picked up an "Essendon Gazette" in the trenches, and was interested to read the list of enlistments (a full-page roll of honour which we periodically published). Pte. A. W. Sherwood has served for two years at the front.

Meritorious Service Medal
'For devotion to duty and service rendered during the period 16th/17th September, 1918, to 11th November, 1918. Sergeant SHERWOOD has acted in the capacity of Orderly Room Sergeant for the past twelve months, and has carried out his duties in a most efficient and praiseworthy manner. During the period under review especially during recent operations, he worked under most trying and difficult conditions. He has proved himself a thoroughly reliable and conscientious N.C.O. and well deserving of reward.'
