Capt. H. Chapman, formerly Area Officer of 58A, is now at Seymour camp. He offered his services about 12 months ago, but was not notified of his acceptance until last Monday, when he was given eight hours to report, and took the 2.40 train for Seymour. Capt. Royle, a capable officer, who has been five years a commissioned officer, takes his place, and his duties began on Monday last. The departing officer, who was popular amongst the cadets, was instrumental in obtaining a gymnasium and N.C.O. club for the area, and was to open the club on Saturday next. It is to be hoped that he will return safe and sound.

In the farewell march through Melbourne on Tuesday, 27th August the 10th Reinforcements, G.S.G., was in command of Lieut J. E. Royle, an Essendon boy. His numerous friends joined a strong post in Collins street and at the Town Hall, where he and his unit were enthusiastically cheered and showered with fruit, sweets and flowers.

On Tuesday, 29th inst, they had their farewell dinner at Sargents' Cafe. Lieut. J. E. Royle was in the chair, supported by his fellow-officer, Lieut. Gilchrist. Capt. Payne Lewis represented the camp (Col. L'Maistre). Items were rendered by a string band, and songs by Essendon's tenor (Mr. George Jennings) and Mr. Chas. Sampford (baritone) were greatly appreciated by the officers and boys also. Many souvenirs were received by Lieut. Royle from his friends.
