Flemington-Kensington Church News,  August 1918

809—Bombdr. A. S. Rankine, 114th Batt., 35th Howitzer Brig., sailed in Nov. 1915, as Corporal in the Infantry. Transferred to the Artillery he arrived in France in  time for the battle of Pozieres. He served as observer to his battery until made draughtsman for the 5th Div. Artillery. Later was loaned to one of the Imperial Generals to make maps of attack, this taking him to the front line. After this he returned to the old position of draughtsman, remaining there until Jan. 22nd of this year, when, at his own request he went back to the guns, and has since been in all the heavy fighting and come through safely.
