Flemington-Kensington Church News, February 1918

1544—Pte. Howard Nihill (23rd Batt), sailed from Melbourne on 8th May, 1915, and arrived in Egypt in June. He left Egypt for Gallipoli on 31st August of the same year, and took part in the battle of Lone Pine. He was then taken sick and sent first to Egypt and then to England. He left England for France on 25th July, 1916. He has taken part in the battles of Bapaume, Pozieres, Bullecourt and the recent fighting, which he says was the hottest within his knowledge. He has had ten days leave, five of which he spent in Scotland, and the other five in London, He says, "Of course I went to Scotland where I had a grand time, for the people do not seem to be able to do enough for us." He is much interested in the countries where the fortune of war has led him, including Egypt, ‘Anzac',  Malta, Sinai, France and Belgium.
