BOY ENLISTS ON REACHING 18
FATHER'S PROMISE KEPT
Leonard Harold Prior, of 56 Lawn street, Moonee Ponds, clerk, attained the age of 18 this week, and his father, Mr Joshua Prior, accompanied him to the Town Hall Recruiting Depot to give his consent to the boy's joining the colors.
"He is my only child," said Mr Prior, "and I promised him on his 16th birthday that he could enlist when he was 18. He has been counting the days for the last two years.
"I'm proud to come along with him, and would go with him if I was under the age limit."
Young Prior is a well set up boy. He told the enlisting officer that he knew half the drill already, as he had been a corporal in the Citizen Forces. He expressed a desire to go into the artillery.
