taken not long after David enlisted, and before he embarked

for overseas service. This photo probably depicts David

Ascot Vale State School Book of "Noble Deeds".

"Simmons, David Clarence, Pte. Born 11th December 1894.  Enlisted 28th

July 1915.  He was with the 22nd Battalion of Infantry, and saw active service

at Armentiers and Pozieres. He was never wounded, but suffered from shell

shock".
