ENGINEER PROMOTED
Charles Matthew Cock, oldest son of Mr James Cock, of Essendon, formerly of Wil-
liamstown, has been made sub-lieutenant in the British Navy. He is on board H.M.S.
Prince of Wales. He served his apprenticeship as an engineer at the Newport Work
shops, and enlisted on August 5, 1914. With the rank of engineer-midshipman he pro-
ceeded to New Guinea, and was at the landing and capture of the German settlement.
After six months at Rabaul he returned to the Commonwealth, and served nine months
on H.M.A.S. Encounter. Coming to Victoria he passed his examination for sub
lieutenant and proceeded to England as fourth engineer In a Commonwealth transport.
He also served his apprenticeship as an engineer at the Newport Workshops.
