Volunteers of Essendon and Flemington, 1914-1918
Saunders F Frank 7 Inf Bn 28 Book keeper Single C of E
Address:
Next of Kin: Saunders, George, father, Victoria St, Darlinghurst, NSW
Enlisted: 9 Jan 1915
Embarked: Did not embark - deserted
Frank's B2455 record shows that he enlisted in Melbourne and was at the Broadmeadows Camp. He was assigned to the 6th Reinforcements of the 7th Infantry Battalion on 19 April 1915. He would have been preparing for embarkation when the Essendon Citizens Military Association went to Broadmeadows to make some presentations in early May, but deserted not long after that. There is no further sign of him. The B2455 file currently contains further papers pertaining to a Frederick Saunders who has been assumed to be Frank re-enlisting, but as he is three inches differerent in height, and doesn't have the tattoos and vaccination marks that Frank had, it is not likely that this is the same man.
