On 6 August 1917 Gordon was Transferred to 6th Division ASC at Windmill Hill camp, Wiltshire. During this change he remained with his brother Jim through postings to 5 Divisional Train and 10th ASC, until Jim was wounded by a shell on 28 July 1918 and evacuated to England .

Gordon was given leave to the UK on 1 October 1918 after twelve months in France.

Gordon and Jim would have been amazed to see women working as conductors on the trams.
