Extracts from Australian Red Cross Missing and Wounded Enquiries Bureau Correspondence.

I knew Gunner Greenwood, acting runner to the 11th Battery on the 4th Brigade HQ and who was killed instantly by a shell near Fransvillers in July 1918.  He is buried in the Cemetery at Freschincourt.  I went to school with his wife at Ascot Vale near Melbourne

I didn't know him well.  He was runner for the 4th Bde HQ.  He was clean shaven, of medium height and build and fair.  I didn't see him killed, but I saw him brought down to the waggon lines dead.  He was up at Bruay and got killed instantly by a 4.2.  He was carting firewood over to HQ when a German shell landed and killed him.  He was buried at Fresnicourt about 7 kilometres from Bruay.  I didn't see his grave but I saw his cross.

I knew casualty.  he was a slightly built man, 5' 8" in height, sallow complexion about 25 years of age.  Casualty was in forward gun position at Pozieres and was wounded going to the assistance of another soldier.  he was wounded in the abdomen by a piece of HE shell.  He was taken out from battery position.  I saw no more of him.
